Hawthorne was an influential writer as well as an historian in the early years of the United States.  Grandfather's Chair is a light historical work that covers the new found colony, revolutionary period, and life in the new republic.  Events covered are: the Boston Tea Party, Salem witch trials, Tories, and the French and Indian War.  Younger readers would find this a good introduction to historical literature.]]></description>
